J&K Govt Relaxes Qualification Bar Under Marriage Assistance Scheme for Poor Girls
Dated: 27 October 2025
In a significant move aimed at helping poor girls in Jammu and Kashmir, the government has relaxed the minimum educational qualification requirement under the Marriage Assistance Scheme.
According to the latest Government Order No. 245-JK(SWD) of 2025 issued by the Social Welfare Department, the qualification bar of 8th Class Pass (or equivalent) has been relaxed up to 31st March 2028.
This decision, based on the approval of the Council of Ministers and concurrence from the Finance Department, modifies the earlier Government Order No.49-JK(SWD) of 2022.
The order further mentions that this relaxation will be effective from 01.04.2025 onwards, allowing eligible applicants who could not meet the earlier qualification criteria to avail the benefits under the scheme.
The Marriage Assistance Scheme provides financial support to poor girls at the time of their marriage, and this relaxation is expected to benefit a large number of deserving applicants across Jammu and Kashmir.
