J&K TET Mandatory for In-Service Teachers & New Recruitment – Govt Order 2026
The Government of Jammu & Kashmir has designated JKBOSE / State School Standards Authority (SSSA) as the nodal agency for conducting the Teachers Eligibility Test (TET) in the Union Territory. This step follows the directions of the Hon’ble Supreme Court for implementation of RTE Act norms.
TET Mandatory for New Teacher Recruitment
The order clearly states:
TET qualification is compulsory for all new teacher appointments
No candidate will be eligible for recruitment without qualifying TET
This applies to government and private schools (except minority institutions, which have temporary exemption)
TET for In-Service Teachers
Teachers with More Than 5 Years of Service Left
They must:
Qualify TET within 2 years
Failure may lead to compulsory retirement (with admissible benefits)
Teachers with Less Than 5 Years to Retirement
They:
Can continue service without TET
But TET is compulsory for promotion
Minority Institutions
Minority schools are temporarily exempted from TET
Final decision will be taken by a larger bench of the Supreme Court
