 State Marriage Assistance Scheme (SMAS) Jammu & Kashmir (2025 Update)

The Government of Jammu and Kashmir has enhanced financial assistance under the State Marriage Assistance Scheme (SMAS) for poor girls belonging to Antyodaya Anna Yojna (AAY) and Priority Household (PHH) ration card families.

Recent Amendment (Order No. 55-JK(SWD) of 2025)

As per the Government Order dated 02-04-2025, the financial assistance has been enhanced from Rs. 50,000 to Rs. 75,000 (one-time) for poor girls of marriageable age belonging to AAY ration card holder families.

As per the Government Order dated 02-04-2025, the financial assistance has been enhanced from Rs. 50,000 to Rs. 75,000 (one-time) for poor girls of marriageable age belonging to AAY ration card holder families.

For girls belonging to PHH ration card holder families, the assistance shall remain Rs. 50,000 (one-time).

This order shall be effective from 01-04-2025 onwards.

Eligibility Criteria

The girl must be of legally marriageable age.

Must belong to AAY or PHH ration card holder families.

Minimum educational qualification: 8th Pass or equivalent (compulsory from 01-04-2025 onwards).

The girl should not be availing benefits from any other Central/State scheme (like Ladli Beti) for the same purpose.

Application Process

The beneficiary must apply at least one month before the date of marriage to the concerned District Social Welfare Department.

Application should be submitted along with the required documents.

Financial assistance is provided before marriage through DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer) Mode.

Documents Required

Affidavit attested by Judicial Magistrate.

Date of Birth Certificate.

8th Class Pass Certificate (or equivalent).

BPL/AAY/PHH Ration Card.

Aadhar Seeding proof.

Proof of Date of Marriage.

Domicile Certificate.

Aadhar Card of beneficiary.

Bank Passbook (for DBT transfer).

Important Notes

The scheme is 100% funded by the UT Government of J&K.

Deputy Commissioners are responsible for verifying and sanctioning eligible cases.

All DC offices shall submit sanction lists to the Social Welfare Department on a fortnightly basis.

How to Apply for SMAS

Visit the Jansugam portal.

Register as a new user if you haven’t already done so.

Log in with your credentials.

Navigate to Apply for Services → View All Available Services.

Search for “Marriage Assistance Scheme” or “State Marriage Assistance Scheme” and select it to access the application form jansugam.jk.gov.in
